This weekend our senior stylist Leslie went along to the wonder that was this years hair expo. Leslie was fortunate enough to be again part of the generation next gala dinner working with the gen next team to put together a show titled "ethereal winter wonderland" which saw styles originally inspired by melted plastic and ice. Leslie was given the task of helping the gen next team attach the intricate and sometimes huge hairpieces onto the models heads. The show started with the powerful ice queen and transitioned through to a beautiful spring princess.
After the prep of the show Leslie was able to watch some of the other shows, a highlight being a show inspired by the NYC street scene , in which big walls of graffiti were brought onto the stage and hair was stuck on the the wall with the same pattern as the graffiti printed on the hair, the hair was then removed from the wall and attached into the models hair on stage, it was a visually appealing show and a great concept.
Leslie was also fortunate enough to score a ticket to 3 time hairdresser of the year, jayne wilde's, show which featured the latest hair trends. The show saw lots of natural, stretched out colors, a lot of blues and silvers in coloring, in styling cuts featured strong extrication and focal points be prepared to see this around town.
Trends
At hair expo the trend for styles were strong lines, short hair for women with strong lines, short hair for women with a strong focal point somewhere within the cut this theme was consistent throughout most of the shows at expo.
Our interview with Katie
Bond: Why did you choose hairdressing?
Katie: I have always loved styling my own hair in many different ways, I also have always noticed people's hair in the streets, the good the bad and the ugly, as a child I have always attacked my dools and babies with scissors so it only seemed natural to pursue my passion for hair
B: what's you favourite part of hairdressing?
K: my favourite part of hairdressing is transforming ok looking hair into amazing hair. I love my clients humor I love laughing noises down the salon. I love the freedom my clients give me to express my creative side with their hair.
B: what are some of your goals?
K: I would love to be fully booked all year round, I would also love to explore my creative side further and do an independent photo shoot. I would ultimately like to own my own salon one day.
B: Favourite moments in your career?
K: My top 2 Favourite moments are, the day I finish my apprenticeship on a busy sat afternoon I was overwhelmed by qualifying that for the first ime in my life I was lost for words. Also when I participated in two shows for fashion week, the rush I got as I saw my work walk down the catwalk was addictive.
