Bond @ Illumina

On Monday night the Bond Team attended a workshop for an exciting new product called Illumina. It's an exciting new colour that creates shine in the hair like never before. It will be arriving in salon in the New Year and we will post more details as the time gets closer. Leslie was also fortunate enough to help with the the hair for the night where he got to work with colourist extra Marie Uva of Rokk Ebony in Melbourne. He got to see Illumina first hand and said " It left  the hair feeling smooth and extremely shiny and sleek". We are very excited to be offering this product and will bring you more information closer to the release of this exciting new product.

Avant Garden- Canberra Fashion Festival

Sunday saw many beautiful Canberra designer pieces on display at the amazing Hotel Realm for the first Canberra Fashion Festival. We saw designs from the likes of Rockstars and Royalty, Zoe Brown and Jenifer Lee as well as last weeks blog entrant Knaves and Fables. Leslie was lucky enough to help out backstage and do the hair for the event. We saw very sleek high ponytails on the runway teamed with bold coloured eyebrows for a sleek ultra modern look. The event was packed with many Canberrans wanting to rub shoulder with Canberra's most talented designers.

Pole Championships by Sarah Little

Sunday the 18th of November Jen, Katie and I went to the Australian Capital Pole Championships. When we first arrived we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one of the contestants running through her rehearsal. The strength and grace that we saw was amazing.  Not one of us could imagine being able to execute what we had seen. We later found out that she was an amateur and that she had been pole dancing for only 2 years. The dressing room where we were working was filled with nervous energy. We created simple hairstyles consisting of braids and curls and messy buns. It was lovely talking to the contestants. Many of the girls and guys had travelled from all over Australia and overseas. We were lucky enough to meet Marion Crampe and Crystal Lai two of the three international acts show cased at the event. They have danced in other major events like the Asia pole championships. The contestants were all lovely and the afternoon was full of laughs. We would like to say a big thank you to Elizabeth at Aerial Pole Academy in Kingston for including us in this amazing event and for allowing us to watch the amazing show as well.

  • Tips on how to Detect Damaged Hair and How to Fix it

You can detect damage hair one of two ways. By doing a surface level test and by doing an elasticity test.

Surface level test:
Hold a strand of hair with two fingers and with your free hand run your fingers down the hair.  If it feels rough and dry you may have surface level damage.

Elasticity test:
Pull one hair out of your head and then using both hands gently pull hair strand.  If the hair bounces and springs it is healthy. If it easily snaps then you have interior cuticle damage.

If you identify that you have damaged hair, have a chat to your stylist and we can recommend an SP treatment ritual to repair your damage.  SP treatments are great because they are a two part system targeting not one but two problem areas.  Ask your stylist today about how to get the most out of your hair.

Tips for Blondes by Katie

A lot of clients are going lighter for summer so here are a few tips to keep your blondes looking great.

  1.  Use deep cleanser shampoo and moisturising conditioner after swimming in the pool or at the beach.   This gets rid of any chemical/ mineral build up from chlorine/salt water and puts moisture back into the hair.
  2. Use treatments once a week as sun, salt water and chemicals are very drying on the hair.
  3. Use purple shampoo every second wash to avoid yellow or gold tones appearing in the hair.
  4. Always make sure hair is 100% dry before using straighteners or styling tools on the hair.
  5. Use thermal protectors as it protects the hair from heat damage.

Fun Facts

  • Brylcreem was the first commercial men's hair product in 1929.

  • The word shampoo comes from the hindi word meaning champna meaning to massage and/knead.

  • The first liquid shampoo to hit the supermarket shelf was in 1952 and was called Dop.

Pole Dancing Championships

Three (3) of the Bond Team are doing the hair for the Australian Capital Pole Championships this weekend, which is being hosted by the Aerial Pole Academy. It's on at the Erindale Centre and should be a fun event. As a supporter of small business in Kingston, Jen is excited to have a new small business, Aerial Pole Academy, recently open for business in Kingston. Some of the team are planning on taking beginner classes which should be a scream. Visit www.australiancapitalpolechampionships.com.au to be involved in classes.

Melbourne Cup

This years Melbourne Cup was spectacular to say the least. Fashion on the fields saw people taking fashion to the next level with slightly more avant garde dresses and hairpieces, it was fantastic to see people making such an effort. It wasn't just the ladies leaving an impression with guys bringing out some statement pieces. This year Bond helped clients look their best for race day with our Melbourne Cup Hair and Makeup special. It was great to see people taking advantage of this exclusive offer, we loved seeing clients looking glamourous for race day.

Movember Update

So the mo is on the grow! Leslie has been growing his mo for a week now and it's starting to look pretty bushy. Trend - Hairpieces

Seems appropriate as its Melbourne Cup. Hairpieces however are not just for race days. Lately we have been seeing hats, fascinators and accessories making a comeback. Whether it be a big bold piece or a simple head band, accessories are in!
