We use shampoo and conditioner to open the cuticle (the outside of the hair) and cleanse the dirt, oil and skin. Once the hair is rinsed the cuticle sits open and this is where the conditioner comes in. We use our conditioner to close and smooth the cuticle. Without conditioner the cuticle with fill up with dirt, oils and UV rays. UV has the potential to strip the colour and leave your hair looking dull and flat.
Why is it important to use a good shampoo and conditioner?
You may have seen the different types of shampoos and conditioners on the market. For example: moisturizing, volumizing and colour save. With good shampoos and conditioners there are years of research into technologies that have been developed to protect your hair. As the saying goes "you are what you eat", the same goes for shampoo and conditioners. If you use the top of the range moisturizing shampoos and conditioners your hair is going to be greatly moisturized.
Salon versus Supermarket - What the main difference between salon and supermarket brand shampoos and conditioners?
Salon brands stake their reputations on their products, because they sell to professionals and if the product doesn't work the professionals won't recommend the products. They also spend a lot of time and money developing their product to make them work the best for you. Supermarket brands are normally owned by large companies whose main focus is on sales, therefore little to no research goes into their products. Most supermarket brands are filled with silicones which coat your hair and make it look shiny. This has a cosmetic effect and does not provide any benefit to your hair, in fact it's doing the opposite. By coating your hair it doesn't actually allow any natural oil into the hair to moisturize and protect the hair. So when you next need shampoo and conditioner consider the facts!

Our interview with Kim
Bond: Why did you choose hairdressing?
Kim: I was interested and decided I wanted to do something different. At the time I was a beauty therapist but want to expand my horizons and when I started working, I loved it.
Bond: What are your goals/aspirations?
Kim: My goal one day is to own a business. I love to study so I hope to one day do some business courses, but my goal right now is to finish my apprenticeship and have a large clientele.
Bond: Whats your favorite part of hairdressing?
Kim: My favourite part is colouring. I love the creativity. I also love expressing myself through colour.
Bond: What's your favourite moment so far?
Kim: Seeing the smiles on clients faces when they leave the salon feeling good about themselves it makes the hard work and the 4 year apprenticeship worth while :)
Trend
We are seeing a come back of the soft messy bun, as a formal and semi formal style. It's great because it's low maintenance and looks great on almost everybody. Expect to see more of this on the red carpet as well.
